For our third beta release we talked with Chip Noble of DeLorme about 2-way messaging in the field without a cellular data connection. We talked about their inReach both for their Earthmate PN-60w GPSR and for Android devices. He also shared that Chris Korbulic and Ben Stookesberry of the Eddie Bauer/First Ascent Kayakers are using the inReach as they challenge the Zambezi, Kufue, Cunene and Kwanza rivers in Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Angola. He also mentioned the "global encounter" where Toby and David use the inReach to provide tracking to their website.

Once again we're releasing a beta episode of GeoGearHeads without music or a finished logo. While we continue working cleaning up our productions our conversation about battery power options continues with talk about available products. Our selection of products for this show consists of more common, unique, and those we used ourselves, but there's far too little time to collect and mention all options within the confines of our little show. Links to the products we mentioned in this show are:

The original Cache-A-Maniacs Podcast launched in 2007 and was retired at the end of 2011 having interviewed more than 250 Geocachers over its five year run. Each episode featured a candid, uncut, and irregular interview with a member of the Geocaching community. Those episodes are still available through this website, iTunes or any other podcatching client. If you'd rather not download the shows, simply clicking on the media link () in the show notes will play in most browsers.

Stats Bar for sir_zmanListen to our interview with sir_zman of Twin Cities Minnesota. He started caching with the Garmin GPS 12. His family bought him a Garmin Legend, and now caches with a Garmin 76. He would like to travel around the world to meet all of the folks that publish geocaching podcasts. He suggests geocaching in Minnesota, specifically the Twin Cities for its large number of quality hides, and The Iron Range for beautiful scenery. When not geocaching, he likes to use Foursquare, volunteer with the Boy Scouts, camping, and podcasting. He produces the Twin Cities GeoCaching PodCast. His favourite band is They Might Be Giants, enjoyed reading Game Of Thrones, and likes watching action and comedy movies.
