He wrote the "A GeoYear Streak" post for the "Trip's GeoAdventures" blog after wrapping up more than a year finding a geocache each day. Ed2Ed emailed his experience on an FTF-a-month caching steak and his use of the Project-GC web site. DudleyGrunt called in his streak across multiple geolocation games. |

The topic for the sixty-eighth edition of the GeoGearHeads is the gear used by our audience members. We spoke like with TheWoodenRadio who mostly uses his Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx with some help from his iPhone/iPad and Geosphere. Minnesota Boy also contacted us about his use of a Magellan eXplorist GC and iPhone. The Bad Cop, DarrylW4, and TheWoodenRadio also talked about the Rove (available through indiegogo), the Garmin Oregon 600 and 650 as to how they might change workflows for Geocachers in the future. |

The sixty-seventh edition of the GeoGearHeads took a little turn from the Geocaching-focus to talk with Rich Harmon about the tPod line. The Program Manager at Tellurex told us about the Smithsonian's "Design with the Other 90%" and his World Pot concept. The tPod1 was funded through a Kickstarter Project but is available to purchase and ship now. The beta version of the tPod 5 is available now, but Rich shared information about the redesigned version which they hope to bring to a Kickstarter project within 6 weeks and deliver about October 2013. He also talked about their special Battery Pack designed to be charged by the low, variable voltage of the tPod1. He also shared that a single teacandle in the tPod1 only yields about 700mAh – only about half a charge for most common smartphones. |

The Bad Cop and DarrylW4 tackle five questions from the GeoGearHeads' audience for the eleventh Randomize, and the sixty-fifth edition of the GeoGearHeads. The first question came from Minnesota Boy about the "GeoGearHeads 2013 Traveler Race." Next was NoNameYet202 who shared that he purchased the Samsung Galaxy Rugby Pro to have a rugged smartphone and avoid the dry bags mentioned on GGH063. HotRod205 shared feedback about his use of Avery White WeatherProof Labels for Laser Printers 15513 for his Munzees in response to our discussion of QR Codes on GGH061. Going all the way back to "GGH Beta.40 Wet Device Recovery," TeamDAAK asked our opinion on two methods he used to recover wet feature phones in the past. The final topic came from Apty who was looking for more quality in cache hides and whether a rating system might help. DarrylW4 mention the poor response for the ratings on Opencaching.com and the availability of third party tools like GCVote. |

For the sixty-fourth edition of the GeoGearHeads Veronica Belmont (of "Tekzilla," "Sword & Laser," and more) joined The Bad Cop and DarrylW4 to talk about location-based gaming and its future. The conversation began with a question from previous guest AirRaidFan (see "GGH 062: AirRaidFan" for his episode) about the potential of location without GPS. Then Groundspeak's Wherigo was brought up as an early attempt at a platform and Munzee and Quest'n Go as alternatives to Geocaching. Some AR games currently available -- including CodeRunner, Ingress, and Shadow Cities -- were mentioned, as well as some Layar based projects (Operation SC Revelation and stiktu). Options for control of objects in the real world like the Parrot, Griffin, and Fighting Walrus Radio were briefly discussed. The potential for new technology such as Google's Glass excited the panel as well as the possibility of apps like Zombies, Run! to motivate people to be more active. |

For the sixty-third edition of the GeoGearHeads The Bad Cop and DarrylW4 talk about some of the tools they carry as they go Geocaching. Some of the favorite items mentioned were the Telescoping Space Pen, Sharpie Mini Marker, Swiss Army Knife Super Tinker, and the Leatherman multitools. Referring back to the batteries on shows Beta.01 and Beta.02, they talked about using the PowerSkin PoP’n, Monoprice External Battery Pack and Charger, Energizer XP2000A, and Energizer Ultimate Lithium Batteries. Dry bags/cases were also suggested, including those from Overboard and Seattle Sports. A couple of bag mentioned were the PowerBag Backpack by Ful (reviewed on CAMR: PowerBag) and Timbuk2 Messenger Bags. They wrapped up with some accessories to take care of some minor pest issues on the trail; OFF! Botanicals Towelettes, OFF! Deep Woods Insect Repellent Towelettes, Benadryl Extra Strength Itch Relief Stick, and The Tick Key. |

AirRaidFan joins us for the sixty-second edition of the GeoGearHeads to talk about his hides and why they might be favorites of many Finders. The discussion began talking about last year's "Falls of The Ohio Extreme Hike 2012" (GC3VDP3) event and the YouTube video by CWGladstone. Then we lead into his Earthcaches with the most favorite points; "Groom Mining District" (GC2GHE8), "Playa" (GC2GP44), "Mammoth Cave, The World's Longest Cave" (GCPAF5), and "Falls Of The Ohio" (GCPAF1). Next up for discussion were a couple of multicaches; "Bronze" (GC1DCJ2) and "Buechel Train Depot - 1898" (GCG9QT), followed by the "Ashes to Dust (a grave story)" (GC1B9J3) puzzle cache and "Arf's Patch Reef Beach (GC)" (GCKDET) traditional cache. |

The Bad Cop and DarrylW4 take on QR Codes for the sixty-first edition of the GeoGearHeads. They covered some basics before moving into feedback. First was TheWoodenRadio talking about the use of QR Codes in the Maryland Geocaching Society's Cache Across Maryland event. Next was an email from juris1c about a cool use for a puzzle cache at the "Even Penguins Don't Talk To Me 2013" (GC43RZ3), and one log in particular to describe it for English Speakers. Cyphrex contacted us about creating a QR Code based hunt in his backyard for the children using QR Generator. The last bit from our audience came from Wayward Wanderers who mentioned a few things and asked about Munzee issues in his area. That was followed up by some discussion of the new Social Munzees. OBXGeek weighed in on that topic through Google+. Back on Geocaching, DarrylW4 talked a little about his long-overdue "Quick Trackable Logging By QR Code" blog post. For ease, QuickMarkwas suggested as the easiest recommendation for a QR Code reader as it supports many common platforms. The following tools to generate QR Codes were listed in that post:

The Bad Cop and DarrylW4 are back for the fifty-ninth edition of the GeoGearHeads and the tenth Randomize show. We kicked off this show with a voicemail from Superted about last week's show and his attempt at his first UV cache -- "Spot to Spot!!!" (GC45BCA). We also heard from previous guest jeepin_idaho about an article of an interesting application of QR codes. Next was more discussion about the "GeoGearHeads 2013 Traveler Race" which starts on March first. Info and instructions are now posted so get your travelers entered early so they can get out early and earn more point! Welcome to the GeoGearHeads 2013 Traveler Race! We've partnered with TB-Run.com to power the first GeoGearHeads sponsored race. The goal of these travelers is to meet as many Geocachers as possible along their travels while sharing Geocaching tips and tricks between March 1, 2013 and September 1, 2013. Each traveler earns a point for each unique cacher who submits a log to it. Since this is intended to be fun for everyone (as well as sharing some Geocaching knowledge) you are encouraged to submit multiple travelers, each with its own tip or trick. We hope you're able to participate by either moving a trackable item or releasing one yourself. Perhaps you'll be fortunate enough to do both! Here's how to enter the race;
If you have a prize which requires other arrangements (e.g. electronic delivery) please contact us at GeoGearHeads@CacheAManiacs.com. The prizes donated to the race will be distributed to the leading traveler owners based on the score for top travelers as determined by TB-Run.com. For the fifty-seventh edition of the GeoGearHeads our hosts (The Bad Cop and DarrylW4) talked about using technology to support Geocaching events. For loading GPSRs during events they spoke about "" (check our show Beta.30) and "GSAK." We also talked about getting the information to smartphones including use of services like "DropBox" (check our show Beta.50). DarrylW4 generally recommends attendees use "Geo Bucket" or "Looking4Cache Free" for iOS (though he prefers "Geocaching with Geosphere") and "CacheSense Demo" or "Neongeo - Demo" (check our show 56). |
